Florida’s digital tower boosted by FREQUENTIS X10 implementation

USA 11 March 2026 – Florida’s digital tower boosted by FREQUENTIS X10 implementation

  • Bartow Executive Airport gets fully integrated communications platform to support digital tower vision
  • The fully IP-based X10 communication system enables seamless radio, telephony, and recording, enhancing safety, resilience, and controller efficiency
  • X10 delivery was accelerated to fast-track digital tower testing in 2026 and U.S National Airspace System (NAS) modernization

The Frequentis digital tower solution, implemented into the newly renovated Digital Tower Operations Center at Bartow airport in summer 2025, required a future-ready communications solution designed specifically for digital operations. Frequentis was selected to deliver a fully digital communications platform to unify voice, recording, and terminal information including weather (ATIS) on one platform, to reduce complexity, modernise legacy infrastructure, increase resilience, and support the airport’s long term innovation goals.

One of those goals is to create a Florida Center of Excellence for emerging aviation technologies, which is why the airport elected to procure a new communication system for the Digital Tower Operations Center instead of relocating legacy technology. As an early digital tower adopter, Bartow will also provide valuable operational insight, helping to shape the future of the U.S. NAS.

“This project is about building a long-term platform for innovation. Establishing a fully integrated communications suite, made up of the Frequentis X10, GuardX recording solution, and smartATIS in our new Digital Tower Operations Center, provides us with a fully integrated digital tower solution for smooth and seamless operations. This also allows us to test, validate, and optimise emerging aviation technologies in a live environment,” says John Helms, Executive Director Bartow Executive Airport.

The modern Digital Tower Operations Center will support higher reliability, operational safety, and improved controller efficiency. Its scalability will also provide a clear upgrade path and lifecycle solution to serve Bartow for years to come.

“Working with a partner like Bartow Executive Airport allows us to demonstrate the benefits of digital tower technology for aviation-grade resilience, safety, scalability, and efficiency as well as lay the foundation for digital tower operations in the U.S.,” says Dieter Eier, President Frequentis USA.
